The Birth of Unbridled.

Unbridled has been in the making for a number of years. I've always dreamed of having my own clothing range inspired by vintage fabrics, clothing and my keen interest in sustainable/eco fashion.

Over the past few months I've been gathering inspiration, patterns and fabrics from all over.
All the patterns I will be using are either vintage styles or horse riding clothing patterns. The fabrics are reclaimed from anywhere I can source them and the inspiration is all my own!

A wonderful friend of mine has donated an extremely large pile of fabrics to the cause and over the next months I'm going to slowly build a collection from them - starting with a gorgeous floral fabric. Using embellishments and modern pattern cutting techniques, breathing new life into the textiles and creating something daring yet wearable!

I've been working on putting together a Show Jacket for a good friend of mine.
She's a fantastic rider (and that's an understatement!!) and I feel completely honoured that she's asked me to do this for her.
This the first toile I put together for her and there are a number of adjustments to be made. It's really interesting designing and manufacturing something that 100% HAS to be functional as well as beautiful. It puts an entirely new spin on what I'm doing - and I do love a challenge!

The White Project - Update

Hello again folks!

So, I've completed the silhouette of my White Project coat.

Here it is...

Still looking a little rough - even after 20 minutes of pressing!!

As you may have worked out from previous posts, this piece is becoming about natural flow and organic, soft shapes which is shown in the sweeping, curved panels and hem line that follows through in panels to the back of the garment. 

The back features four panels, two which split the back in half, one which encompasses the kimono inspired sleeves, a second for added detail.

The next stage of my toile is to get it checked and confirmed with my tutor and get started on creating a pocket pieces for both of the fronts, planning on the pockets spanning the length of the garment.

Hopefully by the end of next week I'll have it all confirmed and be starting to put together my final garment in my chosen fabrics.

The White Project - Update

I'm now on the fourth day of making my toile and I have four front panels and sleeves in place! I'm going to begin work on the back tomorrow afternoon after much needed sleep, these late nights are killing me but I suppose that's the price you pay for being a fashion student.

Also, the toile needs a serious press over so please excuse the creases!

 
As previously planned, the front consists of four panels - two of the left, two on the right. These panels all flow towards the right hand side of the garment.
There are bust darts in place to give form and fit to the coat without distracting too much from the seam line panels.

(I have plans to see if I can turn the darts into seam lines but that's extra detailing that
can wait until the base is fully finished)

I created two sleeves based on the kimono style. The sleeves attach above the bust dart to what I can only describe as a yoke.

The sleeves lead to a panel that runs down the side of the coat - I'm currently in the process of working out adding an inside panel from cuff, under arm and down to the hem on both side. This will match along with the slim panel running from the the shoulder down to the cuff.

The back is currently up for debate, at the moment I am considering adding in another panel. Half way between the neckline and the yoke line, fitting in with the under-arm panel.

My goal of finishing the base of my toile by the end of next week is looking promising with the rate it's going!
